Cricketing Night 2003
The One that got away.
This fishing adage sums up the 2002-2003 season for LSWCC.
Going into the last league match against Scorpions, we had a great chance of lifting the trophy. Despite our heroics however it was not to be as the Pakistan Association obliterated their opposition to pip us at the post.
The same can be said for the Knock Out Cup.
A missfielding error in the semi final meant we couldn’t compete in the final, won by Scorpions thanks to the former LSWCC stalwart and evergreen cricketer, Gopal Lalchandani.
Despite these set backs the team performed creditably ably guided by Tabarak Dar and Afzael Haider.
Many new and young players were blooded and this bodes well for the 2003/2004 season.
At the international level, Dar and Afzael, also performed well, and Afzael in particular became a local hero, helping the Hong Kong team win the plate in the international sixes played at KCC.
All LSWCC junior teams ably marshaled by Saqlain and drilled by Imran & Afzael, took nearly all the honours in all the group competitions.
This was a magnificent achievement and something to be proud of.
LSWCC is truly making a major contribution to cricket and the development of cricket in Hong Kong overall, and as a result LSWCC is now a major force on the local cricket scene. I have every confidence we will continue be one in the years ahead.
Thank you to all members of the club for your dedication and contribution and let’s keep up the momentum and good work.

Well, another very satisfactory season for Little Sai Wan, even if our hopes of the Sunday League title were dashed on the last day of the season when, despite a very good 3 wicket win over Scorpions at their Hong Kong Cricket Club ground, we came second to Pakistan Association by a single point. So we give our congratulations to Pakistan Association on their fine season.
But these days, little Sai Wan in more that a team competing in the HKCA Perrier Sunday League, it is a structured club where boys can join as youngsters and move up into the first team and I am sure that many of them will earn representative honours playing for Hong Kong junior and senior sided, following in the footsteps of so many Little Sai Wan players. The youth teams did the club proud, collecting medals for their championship performances at U13, U15, U17 and U19 levels the HKCA Awards Night. The foundations are well laid for future success and I would particularly like to thank all of you who have devoted time and effort to our youth development.
Here's wishing all our teams continued success in the 2003/2004 season.

Like the economy it’s been a tough year for the fortunes of the Club.
Some key players from the side which played in 2001-2002 have sought greener pastures, leaving a talent vacuum.
This is indeed unfortunate, but when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Thanks to a core management team, spearhead by Dar, the current Sunday, Captain and Saqlain who has conscientiously built and nurtured Sai Wan’s juniors the prospects are bright.
While the team performance during 2001-2002 has not been good the fact that younger players have been blooded bodes well for future seasons as they all become more battle hardened and seasoned.
The team’s poor performance can also be put down to the fact that the HKCA does not have enough grounds.
This has resulted in a disjointed playing schedule, which in turn has meant the team cannot find a playing rhythm.
Sai Wan has withstood these tests of character in the past and I am confident given the nucleus of committed management and players young and old that the Club will emerge the stronger for it in future years.

Vice Chairman’s Message
Cricketing Night 2002
The times, they are a changing! Certainly Little Sai Wan Cricket Club has changed and continues to change. It is now a dynamic force within the Hong Kong cricket scene. Take a look at the LSWCC web site and see for yourself.
In the second half of the nineties, many old stalwarts of the club were worried about the future and thought that the club would die. In order to survive, the club has undergone radical changes, not the least in its membership base. But at the same time a sound foundation for the future has been laid in the shape of the excellent junior programme that is now bearing fruit.
It is great to see the hard work of those who devote their time to the youngsters bringing success in junior matches and tournaments. The members involved are to be congratulated. They should be proud of themselves.
The club now has a sound organisation and an enthusiastic group of people who are committed to do their utmost to bring success to Little Sai Wan Cricket Club. With our junior programme and the backing of our sponsors and supporters the club will surely go from strength to strength.
Sunday 24 February saw a fine win over championship contenders KCC Infidels on their home ground. With that kind of performance, Little Sai Wan is a force to be reckoned with. We can foresee that a challenge for the league title is now a realistic possibility in the near future.

Cricketing Night 2001
The bigger you are, the harder you fall. This adage sums up very appropriately the 2000-2001 cricket season for the Club.
This is indeed a tremendous disappointment particularly as there were hopes at the start of the season that the Club would emulate the success of the 1999-2000 team, which lifted the Sunday League title, after many years in the wilderness.
Being top dog always places undue pressures on performance and the underdog in these situations has all to play for.
It is very easy to find excuses; loss of some key players, injuries, a disjointed match schedule, and bad umpiring, spring to mind.
While all these are relevant the root causes are probably complacency and lack of preparation and commitment.
While it is easy to be negative, great teams and clubs always draw on the positives at times like these and bounce back better and stronger for it.
There are many things working in our favour. There remains a strong core of experienced and talented players, the Club has an excellent youth programme, its management and administration has become more efficient and effective, and its financial position is a lot stronger.
Given the above, along with some introspection ad reassessment, I have every confidence that the Club will repeat its 1999-2000 success many times over in future years.

Chairman’s Message
Cricketing Night 1999
It is with great pleasure that I write this message.
The Club has started the season well and there is every prospect that Sunday League Title may well be within our grasp this season.
What a great way to end and welcome the millennium it this was to be the case.
You will also note that according to the book 150 Years of Hong Kong Cricket the Club has been functioning longer than first believed. This is our 35th year, having been established according to the author of the book, Mr. Peter Hall in 1964.
We Certainly have a proud tradition, and the fact that the Club has been playing for so many years is accredit to the perseverance and dedication of many players and administrators over the years. This is particularly the case in the last decade.
I would like to thank JKN for once again providing funds to sponsor the team. Without this substantial cash injection it is doubtful weather the Club could continue to survive.
I would also like to thank the committee of the LSWCC for their dedicated efforts this year. For the first time in a number of years there is a structured management format in place to ensure all activities and responsibilities of the Club and being dealt with in a methodical and proper manner.
This bodes well for the future.
